Pickleball is a sport played on a badminton-sized court with a 34 inch net. It’s played with perforated, hard, plastic “wiffle” balls and wood or composite paddles about twice the size of ping-pong paddles. It’s easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a fast-paced competitive game for experienced players. The game has developed a reputation for its friendly and social nature as well. And it’s growing FAST in Central Texas!
Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong to create an entirely unique racket sport. Usually played as doubles, new players can learn the game quickly in a single session. No special apparel is needed, just athletic shoes. It’s a great equalizer for differences in age, strength and athletic ability. Pickleball is considered a low-risk, low impact sport, with a focus on balance and agility. The game is mainly about shot placement and strategy, not brute power or strength. It’s not uncommon to see kids, seniors and all ages in between playing together! Our indoor basketball courts at Hill Country Indoor have existing markings for Pickleball and can be taped off for official play. Both experienced and novice players are welcome!
