HOMEBOUND NOT DOWN

Just because you’re stuck at home does not mean you have to stop all activity. Much like many of the sports put on by Hill Country Indoor, soccer is one you can hone your skills in the comfort of your home!

All you need is a 3 by 3 yard area and a soccer ball for the activities below.

Get up. Get ready. Let’s play!

Now hold on…before we begin our drills, we’ll need to warm up. Let’s jog in place for 30 seconds to make sure we’re really ready for our activity. Remember: if you go straight into stretching it could harm you more than help you. Some simple stretching movements we suggest include feet together + touch your toes, feet stretched apart + touch your toes, and feet still stretched apart + touch each toe for a 10 count.

When you feel warm, grab a soccer ball and get to work on these ball handling drills!

Equipment needed: a ball of any size
Space needed: 3 by 3 yard square (minimum)
Time needed: 20-60 second rounds and repeat for as long as noted in the drill notes

Mini-Skills Level (3-5 year olds)

Drill: Popcorn (or Shuffle Stop)

Instructions: Start with the ball by your right foot. With your right foot, kick the ball lightly to your left foot, back to your right foot, then kick the ball back to your left and stop the ball with your left foot. Do a practice round first. Once you get better and more comfortable, count your repetitions within the time frame. Try to beat your score or compete with other family members or other remote friends!

Time: Do this for 20 seconds, then repeat 3 times.
